Ceremonial Graduation at the Rejtő Faculty

The Rejtő Sándor Faculty of Light Industry and Environmental Engineering at Obuda University hosted a festive graduation ceremony, a truly fitting event for the faculty’s history. Hungarian and international students who completed higher education vocational training, bachelor’s, and master’s programs received their certificates and diplomas. This year’s ceremony featured a special novelty: for the first time ever, young engineers and assistant engineers donned ceremonial gowns to receive their diplomas, adding to the occasion’s grandeur.

The ceremony began with the dean, Dr. habil. László Koltai’s speech, who emphasized the opportunities awaiting the graduates and the responsibility that comes with their acquired knowledge. Following his address, the diplomas were presented.

A significant number of fresh graduates received distinction diplomas for their outstanding academic achievements, acknowledging years of hard work and dedication. Dean Dr. habil. László Koltai personally congratulated each graduate, wishing them much success in their future careers.

After the diploma presentation, the student oath was recited. In it, the new graduates pledged their professional commitment and adherence to ethical standards. In one of the ceremony’s moving moments, a representative of the graduating class tied a commemorative ribbon onto the faculty’s flag, symbolizing their loyalty to their alma mater and their sense of belonging to the community.

The university’s senior leadership was represented by Prof. Dr. Zoltán Rajnai, Vice-Rector, who highlighted the role of Obuda University and the Rejtő Faculty in Hungarian higher education. The presidium of the ceremony included Bodáné Dr. habil. Rita Kendrovics, Vice-Dean, and Dr. habil. Edit Csanák, Vice-Dean, as well as Eszter Bartha, Head of Deans Office, who also extended their congratulations to the graduates.

On behalf of the Rejtő students, Csenge Papp, President of the Faculty Student Union, greeted the fresh graduates. In her speech, she emphasized the importance of the knowledge and experience gained during their university years, as well as the constructive power of community life, which will accompany students as they enter the world of work.

The event marked a fitting conclusion to a significant chapter in these young people’s lives and simultaneously opened a new one on their path toward professional challenges and successes.

New Event in the Hungarian-Turkish Science and Innovation Year: Marmara University Delegation Visits Rejtő Faculty

A significant event reinforcing scientific collaboration between Hungary and Turkey recently took place at the Óbuda University’s Rejtő Sándor Faculty of Light Industry and Environmental Engineering (Rejtő Faculty) as part of the Hungarian-Turkish Science and Innovation Year. A delegation from Istanbul’s Marmara University arrived in Budapest for professional round-table discussions and to consult with faculty leaders on strategic matters.

The Turkish delegation included Prof. Dr. Arif Ozcan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emine Arman Kandirmaz, Assist. Prof. Dr. Omer Bunyamin Zelzele, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elif Ozen Ural and Murat Kandirmaz. During their visit, they met with Dr. habil. László Koltai, Dean of the Faculty; Prof. h.c. Dr. Csaba Horváth; Dr. Gabriella Oroszlány; Dr. habil. Edit Csanák, Scientific Vice-Dean; and Norbert Berecz, Faculty International Coordinator. They thoroughly discussed opportunities for educational, professional, and strategic cooperation.

The core of the discussions focused on initiating joint research projects, expanding student and faculty exchange programs, and deepening knowledge sharing between the two institutions. A key objective was to identify areas where the strengths of both universities could complement each other, leading to shared research achievements in the future. The talks also covered the latest challenges in printing, packaging, and light industry sectors, as well as environmental protection, and the scientific responses to these issues.

Beyond the meeting rooms, the delegation had the opportunity to tour the Rejtő Faculty’s modern laboratories. This practical demonstration allowed them to gain insight into the Faculty’s advanced infrastructure and research capabilities, with a particular focus on innovative technologies and sustainable solutions. The Turkish guests showed great interest in the ongoing projects and student work.

The delegation also met with Óbuda University students. These interactions fostered cultural and scientific knowledge exchange, creating opportunities for future student collaborations, whether through joint projects or exchange programs.

A highlight of the visit was a series of professional presentations delivered by the Turkish experts, where they shared their latest research findings and industry experiences with the Faculty’s staff and students. These friendly presentations covered a wide spectrum of topics, ranging from the newest printing technologies to environmental and IT-related issues. These presentations contributed significantly to the scientific discourse and opened new perspectives for both parties in the fields of research and development.

Following the discussions, Dr. habil. László Koltai, Dean of the Faculty, stated, “This meeting once again reinforced Hungarian-Turkish scientific relations and represents another step forward in deepening educational and innovation cooperation between the two universities. Such initiatives are crucial for building global scientific networks and finding solutions to common challenges.”

The visit of the Marmara University delegation demonstrated a mutual commitment to closer collaboration between the Hungarian and Turkish scientific communities, laying the groundwork for future shared successes in research, education, and innovation.


“Sustainability: Conscious Education and Training” Conference at Rejtő Faculty

The PROJEKTKONFERENCIA 2025, hosted by the Rejtő Sándor Faculty of Light Industry and Environmental Engineering at Obuda University, achieved significant success, featuring the International Scientific Conference “Sustainability: Conscious Education and Training” on May 23. Dr. Katalin Szili, Prime Ministerial Chief Advisor and former Speaker of the National Assembly, served as chief patron. The Hungarian Pedagogical Society’s Project Pedagogy Section provided key professional support, with contributions from the Rudolf Kálmán Foundation for Obuda University.

The conference began with opening remarks from Dr. habil. László Koltai, Dean of the Rejtő Faculty, and Dr. Rita Bodáné Kendrovics, Director of the Institute of Environmental Engineering and Natural Sciences and Vice-Dean for Education. Dean Koltai conveyed greetings from Rector Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, emphasizing the critical role of sustainability education for future generations to foster conscious and responsible citizens. Dr. Bodáné Kendrovics highlighted how this education equips individuals with practical skills and competencies, promoting environmentally conscious actions. The event’s presentations and workshops facilitated the exchange of best practices and experiences.

The conference boasted a rich program with numerous distinguished experts. Csaba Kőrösi, Strategic Director of the Blue Planet Foundation and former President of the UN General Assembly, delivered an inspiring lecture on “Sustainable Economy, Society – What Should We Prepare For?”. Katalin Czippán, Education and Strategic Advisor at the Blue Planet Foundation, discussed “Nature-based education for sustainability.” Prof. Dr. Andrea Dúll, a university professor and member of the MTA Presidential Committee on Sustainable Development, explored the conscious and unconscious environmental sociological educational context of sustainability education through the lens of eco-emotions.

Other notable speakers included Attila Molnár, Director General of the Rudolf Kálmán Foundation for Obuda University, who detailed the foundation’s sustainability efforts. Dr. Mónika Bakosné Diószegi, Head of Office and Deputy Director of Obuda University’s University Well-being Center, presented on integrating ESG criteria into university life and their impact on student well-being. Anikó Orgoványi, President of the Green Heart Youth Nature Conservation Movement, discussed the place of nature pedagogy within the system of sciences.

Chief patron Dr. Katalin Szili delivered a presentation titled “Between Two Sustainable Framework Strategies: From the National Concept of Transition Towards Sustainability to Achieving a Sustainability Turn,” focusing on national and global challenges in the sustainability transition. Prof. Dr. Mária Németh CSc from Selye János University, in collaboration with Dr. Rita Bodáné Kendrovics, researched the pedagogy of sustainability from an environmental pedagogy perspective.

The afternoon featured parallel sessions where over 60 participants delved deeper into various aspects of sustainability and specific topics. The conference provided an excellent platform for scientific dialogue, experience sharing, and networking, reaffirming Obuda University’s commitment to sustainability and environmentally conscious education. Overall, the event was a great success, contributing significantly to advancing sustainable development goals.

IX. International Symposium 2025 – Highly Successful Conclusion of the Online, International Environmental and Biosecurity Conference of the Rejtő Faculty

The Institute of Environmental Engineering and Natural Sciences of the Rejtő Sándor Faculty of Light Industry and Environmental Engineering at Obuda University successfully held its IX. International Symposium – 2025 on “Environmental Health & Biosecurity: Sciences, Engineering & Application” online on May 8th and 9th. This annual scientific event focused on environmental health and biosecurity this year. The conference was conducted online via the Microsoft Teams platform. The main organizer of the conference was Dr. Bayoumi Hamuda Hosam, Associate Professor. The scientific event was considered a remarkable success, with the participation of over 80 individuals from 16 countries.

At the opening of the symposium, Dr. Rita Bodáné Kendrovics, Vice-Dean for Education of the Rejtő Sándor Faculty of Light Industry and Environmental Engineering and Director of the Institute of Environmental Engineering and Natural Sciences, welcomed the participants. In her speech, she emphasized: “The fields of environmental engineering and natural sciences play a crucial role in finding sustainable solutions to the environmental challenges of our time and in protecting the planet’s biodiversity.”

Prof. Dr. Enikő Maior, Vice-Rector for Education of Óbuda University, officially opened the event, stating: “Environmental awareness and sustainability are of paramount importance to our university, and we are delighted to host this significant scientific event.” Regarding the diversity of the presentations, she highlighted: “The topic of the conference, environmental health and biosecurity, draws attention to one of the most pressing global challenges of our time, and the active involvement of the scientific community is essential in the search for solutions.”

The plenary session covered prominent topics such as heavy metal pollution monitoring, urban ESG practices, landfill meteorology, educational methods related to waste management, and the probiotic potential of the Enterococcus genus.

The conference was divided into five thematic sections, covering a wide spectrum of environmental protection and biosecurity, ranging from healthcare to energy research. The sections featured presentations on soil biology, waste management, artificial intelligence, and the circular economy.

On Friday, an online poster session also took place, where participants could present further research findings.

The Dean of the Rejtő Faculty, Dr. habil László Koltai, expressed his satisfaction with the success of the event and thanked the participants, speakers, and members of the organizing committee for their work.
