Sustainability and ESG Activities

Sustainability and ESG Activities of the Rejto Sandor Faculty of Light Industry and  Environmental Engineering of the University of Óbuda

The Rejto Sandor Faculty of Light Industry and  Environmental Engineering of the University of Óbuda is committed to sustainability and environmental, social, and economic (ESG) considerations in its teaching, research, and operations. The faculty aims to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and to prepare students for the challenges of the future.

The main elements of the RC’s sustainability and ESG activities are:

In our teaching areas: the faculty offers a wide range of sustainability-related subjects and courses for students, including environmental engineering, sustainable energy, waste management, sustainable- and re-design, and environmental ethics. The faculty also integrates sustainability and environmental aspects into traditional engineering subjects.

Research in our activities: faculty researchers are actively involved in research on sustainability, including renewable energy, waste management, water conservation, and pollution reduction. The faculty’s researchers work closely with industry and government to put research results into practice.

In our operations: The faculty’s buildings are energy efficient, waste is collected selectively, and there is a strong focus on water conservation. The faculty also encourages students and staff to use sustainable modes of transport.

All staff at the Faculty believe that higher education has a key role to play in promoting sustainable development. Higher education institutions need to prepare students for the challenges of the future and commit to sustainable practices.”

Education for sustainability has many advantages:

It prepares students for the job market of the future: employers are increasingly looking for graduates with the knowledge and skills to address sustainability challenges.

Develops students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Encourages students to become responsible citizens: Knowledge about sustainability helps students to become more responsible citizens who make informed choices about environmental issues.
