About the environmental engineering internship

The internship is a mandatory and integral part of the course of studies and is strongly related to the thesis. Completing an internship is one of the award requirements. The duration of the internship is 6 weeks. Any company, firm, local government, entrepreneur/contractor (state or private) can be a suitable internship place if the activity carried out there is related to environmental protection.

You can gain valuable experience working in your field throughout an environmental engineering internship, matching your freshly obtained theoretical knowledge with practice. As environmental engineering is a relatively new discipline, you can learn plenty during your internships. Environmental engineering companies take pride in their internship programs, usually offering exciting training and career development opportunities.

As an intern, you will assist in your colleagues’ daily activities such as preparing calculations, drawing up designs, doing fieldwork, collecting samples, or assembling and analysing data. Researching studies and evaluating submissions on construction projects might also be part of your job.

You can do your internship abroad, in another country, not only in Hungary.

Aim of internship: To obtain specific practical skills from the field of environmental technology, alternative or environmentally friendly technology, solve problems of nature protection which form the basis for the final semester of the training program, the efficiency of the process of preparing thesis and the period after graduation.

Tasks during the internship: Students can be involved in work on the basis of the skills acquired during their studies from the following fields: water, noise, soil, air, vibration and noise protection; waste management and treatment; investigations of environmental impact and environmental impact assessment; environmental remediation; fundamentals of energy management, energy production, renewable energy sources; main goals of sustainable development; characteristics of engineering software; regulations and methods of work and fire safety; safety and elimination.

Completion of internship: During internship and while working in a given field students prepare a report whose topic is selected by the student with the assistance of his/her supervisor(s). The report can contain publicly available data on the company or information to which the company has given its consent before. The following should be considered when evaluating student performance: professional, personal attitude, diligence, adaptive skills, successful completion of specific tasks.

Internship practice reporting requirements:

Students are required to produce a report of the internship practice, the length of which is 10 to 12 pages, a minimum of 8,000 characters (without spaces), presenting the theoretical and practical knowledge mastered.

The report has to contain:

  • the presentation of the company (business, products manufactured, headcount employed, manufacturing process, technical facilities, etc.);
  • a detailed description of the work processes/activities studied/performed by the student, the knowledge acquired (materials/tools/technologies), the novelties acquainted with, etc.

The report is required to be produced on the basis of the formal requirements of the thesis.

The report is required to be uploaded to the subject titled “Internship practice” in the Moodle system in Word format or to be submitted in a printout to the institute by the end of the registration week of the next semester.

Here you can download all the necessary documents (Agreement of cooperation, Certificate of completion of internship practice, Competency evaluation sheet, Work log) in one piece that students will need to have for their professional cooperation.

Two copies of the duly completed cooperation agreement, dated, signed, and stamped, must be returned to the institute administrator, the third copy remaining with the traineeship.

Based on the cooperation agreement concluded between the higher education institution and the internship for an indefinite period of time, the Office of Education keeps a register of the internships participating in the training, as well as the internal internships.

The condition for the recognition of the completion of the internship is the certificate completed by the internship place, the competence assessment, the report to the competent institute. The internship is evaluated on the certificate, on a three-point scale: excellent, passed, failed.

The registration of the completion of the internship prescribed in the curriculum in the Neptun system is performed by a person authorized by the director of the institute.
